Boys' Tennis: Fulton's Windsor, Adams qualify for state championships

MEXICO, Mo. - The Fulton Hornets' doubles team of junior Haydon Windsor and senior Justin Adams advanced to the Class 1 state championships with their victory at the Sectional 4 championships Tuesday.

Windsor and Adams qualified with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Boonville's Phillip Udinyiwe and Joshua Udinyiwe. The Fulton pair previously defeated the Udinyiwes 10-7 in a North Central Missouri Conference matchup April 6 in Boonville.

"Haydon and Justin play with high energy and they really know how to pick each other up - they complement each other really well," Hornets head coach Rob Fisher said. "They play the net well and they hit smart shots, and they don't make a lot of unforced errors.

"That's the recipe for a good doubles team. I'm not surprised they're in this situation right now."

Windsor and Adams - who have compiled a 13-3 record - reached sectional play with a second-place finish at the District 8 Tournament last Saturday in Jefferson City. The duo bowed to Helias' Dalton Buschjost and Tristan Grawe 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 in the championship match.

Windsor and Adams will now compete May 26-27 at the Class 1 state championships at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

"I couldn't be more thrilled for them, especially Justin since he's a senior," Fisher said.

Fulton's doubles team of freshman Aiden Petterson and senior Grant Hendricks earned all-district status with its fourth-place finish last Saturday. The pair ended the season with a 9-5 record.
