New Bloomfield boys finish second at Russellville Quad

RUSSELLVILLE, Mo. - Juniors Clay Walker and Payton Culwell both won two events to spark the New Bloomfield Wildcats to a second-place outcome at the season-opening Russellville Quad on Tuesday.

In the girls' division, senior Kate Baxter took first place in the 100-meter hurdles and came in second in the long jump as New Bloomfield placed sixth overall.

Walker prevailed in the 100 and 200 with respective times of 11.63 and 23.96 seconds as New Bloomfield logged 104 points and was narrowly squeezed out by team champion Tipton's 105. Culwell triumphed in the 400 in :53.74 and won the javelin with a toss of 141 feet even.

Walker and Payton Culwell also teamed with senior Zain Culwell and sophomore Bailey Crane in capturing first place in both the 800 (1:36.38) and 1,600 (3:39.00) relays.

Crane came in second in the 400 (:54.56), while Zain Culwell was fourth in the 200 (:24.79). Senior Bradley Roddy placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (:47.24) and freshman Wil Steele finished fourth in the 1,600 (5:27.10). The Wildcats' 400 relay of freshman Easton Ambler, junior Austin Carrier, Steele and freshman Jesse Wyatt took fourth in :54.10.

Baxter was victorious in the 100 hurdles in :17.70 and was second in the long jump at 13-8 as the Lady Wildcats recorded 61 points. Linn collected the girls' team title with 131 points, Eugene placed second with 120 and Russellville came in third with 91.5.

Sophomore Samantha Haas finished third in the triple jump at 31-2 1/2 and junior Kassi O'Dowd was fourth in the 3,200 in 14:26.41. New Bloomfield's 800 relay of junior Mckenna Rackers, sophomores Mackenzie Garrett and Parker Pitzen, and Haas took third in 2:01.65.

New Bloomfield travels to North Callaway for the Thunderbird Open at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 28.
