Baseball: Blair Oaks 13, New Bloomfield 1

NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - The New Bloomfield Wildcats managed only four hits and also committed four errors in Monday night's five-inning, non-conference loss to the Blair Oaks Falcons.

New Bloomfield (1-3) also split a pair of home games Saturday - falling to Vienna, ranked fifth in Class 2, in a 6-2 loss, before trampling Tipton 12-2.

Blair Oaks pounced on the Wildcats with a pair of five-run outbursts in the first and second innings Monday night, then added its three other runs in the fourth.

New Bloomfield put up its lone run in the bottom of the fifth. Senior center fielder Evan Roddy beat out an infield single with one out and moved to second when junior catcher Nick Hammann was hit by a pitch.

Both runners then pulled off a double steal and Roddy scored from third on senior second baseman Zach Burton's groundout.

Roddy finished 2-for-2, while Hammann and senior left fielder Robert Manning were both 1-for-2.

Senior starter Tommy Bedsworth made it through just two innings in being tagged with the loss for New Bloomfield. Bedsworth allowed 10 runs - eight earned - on eight hits, issued two walks and struck out one.

The Wildcats host a non-conference game with Pilot Grove at 5 p.m. Thursday.
