Lady Wildcats beat Montgomery County in opening-round

MOKANE, Mo. - New Bloomfield junior guard Madi Craighead produced a game-high 20 points to help the No. 2 seed Lady Wildcats take down the No. 7 Montgomery County Lady Wildcats 64-41 in the opening round of the South Callaway Tournament on Monday.

New Bloomfield (10-2) will play the winner between No. 3 seed New Haven and No. 6 Russellville in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Lady Shamrocks and Lady Indians played each other in a first-round game on Monday night. Results were not available at press time.

New Bloomfield led Monday's game 11-4 after the first quarter and held a 28-23 advantage at halftime. New Bloomfield outscored Montgomery County 15-10 in the third period to stretch its lead to 43-33.

"We didn't shoot the ball real well (in the first half)," New Bloomfield head coach Brett Craighead said. "In the second half, we started hitting some shots, made some baskets in transition and we just kind of got on a roll."

Sophomore center Samantha Haas provided 13 points and 10 rebounds for New Bloomfield. Senior forward Madison Love recorded 12 points and pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds.

Kayla Schmidt led Montgomery County with 16 points.
