Girls' Basketball: Mexico 49, Fulton 33

MEXICO, Mo. - The Fulton Lady Hornets completed the regular season with a 3-22 mark and ended North Central Missouri Conference play at 1-12 after Friday night's loss to the rival Mexico Lady Bulldogs.

Fulton - which lost to Mexico 44-21 in its season and home opener Nov. 21 - trailed Mexico 13-6 after the first quarter Friday night and was down 17-12 at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs then took control by outscoring the Lady Hornets 18-7 in the third quarter to widen their lead to 35-19.

Senior guard Dionne Vaughn led Fulton with 12 points, six rebounds and seven steals. Sophomore forward Haden Trowbridge scored six points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

"Mexico had a big third quarter and we turned the ball over too much," Lady Hornets head coach TJ Quick said. "We tied them in the fourth quarter and both squads scored 14 points. That's the momentum we want to carry into districts.

"We can play with Mexico if we take care of the ball."

Raigan Playter and Adria Costley shared game scoring honors with 14 points apiece for the Lady Bulldogs.

Fulton (1-14) bowed in the junior varsity game 38-28. Sophomore forward Destri Dungan logged a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Hornets will get their rematch against the Lady Bulldogs in this week's Class 4, District 8 Tournament at Liberty (Wentzville) High School. No. 6 seed Fulton squares off against No. 3 Mexico in first-round play at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
