Boys' Basketball: (St. Charles) Christian 48, North Callaway 32

MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo. - The No. 2 seed Christian Eagles pulled away from the No. 3 North Callaway Thunderbirds by making 14-of-22 free throws in the fourth quarter of Thursday night's Class 3, District 7 semifinals.

North Callaway was on top 13-12 after one quarter, but Christian outscored the Thunderbirds 12-2 in the second quarter and took a 24-15 lead into halftime. North Callaway outscored the Eagles 6-4 in a tedious third quarter to make it 28-21, but Christian wrapped up the victory by outscoring the Thunderbirds 20-11 over the last 8 minutes.

Freshman forward Tully Thomsen connected for 10 of his game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter as the only player to make it into double figures for North Callaway. The Thunderbirds had their 10-game winning streak halted in completing the season with a 16-11 record.

"(Christian) is a really good defensive team - we got off to a good start, but then we couldn't hit a lot of our shots," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said. "We knew they played a slow game, but they played even slower than we expected. We played right with them, but then we had to foul (late in the game).

"It was a great season for the team, especially at the end. That shows a lot of promise and we'll be setting our goals high next year."

Colton Carlisle and Jack Luetkemeyer tallied 12 points apiece to guide four players in double figures for the Eagles (14-12). Zach Niemeyer and Zach Harding both contributed 10 points.

Christian battled host and top-seeded Montgomery County (25-2) for the District 7 championship Saturday afternoon. Results were not available at press time. Montgomery County advanced to the title game by racing past No. 4 seed Lutheran St. Charles 95-79 in Thursday night's other semifinal.
