Lady Hornets tumble at Kirksville

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Fulton Lady Hornets logged their first NCMC win of the season over the Kirksville Lady Tigers more than a week ago, but couldn't complete the sweep.

Fulton - which defeated Kirksville 46-43 at home on Feb. 13 - fell to 3-21 on the season and 1-10 in the North Central Missouri Conference after Thursday night's 55-30 setback to the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Hornets were down 14-8 after the first quarter and were outscored by the Lady Tigers 16-8 in the second quarter, trailing 30-16 at the break. Kirksville pushed its advantage to 44-23 entering the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Dionne Vaughn paced Fulton with a game-high 15 points and four assists. Sophomore forward Haden Trowbridge provided seven points and seven rebounds.

"(Kirksville) came out with a ton of energy and we didn't have any," Lady Hornets head coach TJ Quick said. "We had to try to crawl back into the game the rest of the way.

"We didn't have enough in our arsenal to come back from that many (points) down."

Alex Arabas topped the Lady Tigers with 11 points and Josephina Nichting contributed 10.

Fulton's junior varsity earned its first victory of the season by holding off Kirksville 24-22. Sophomore guard Heidi Royer guided the Lady Hornets (1-12) with eight points and freshman guard Katie Brady had five.

Fulton makes an NCMC trip to rival Mexico to end the regular season at 5 p.m. today. The Lady Hornets opened the season with a 44-21 loss to the Lady Bulldogs on Nov. 21 in Fulton.
