Girls' Basketball: North Callaway 48, Wright City 28

MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo. - The second-seeded North Callaway Ladybirds took down the No. 7 Wright City Lady Wildcats in the opening round of the Class 3, District 7 Tournament on Monday night at Montgomery County High School.

North Callaway (18-8) - which previously defeated the Lady Wildcats 61-26 on Feb. 6 in Wright City - will face the No. 3 seed Bowling Green Lady Bobcats in a semifinal game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Lady Bobcats - who beat the Ladybirds 50-46 this past Thursday in Bowling Green - advanced to the semifinals after they defeated the No. 5 Winfield Lady Warriors in a first-round game on Monday.

"We're hoping to give it (a loss) right back to them," North Callaway head coach Morgan Beamer said. "It should be a competitive, quick game."

In Monday's game, the Ladybirds took a 16-8 lead over the Lady Wildcats after the first quarter and controlled a 30-10 advantage at halftime. North Callaway outscored Wright City 16-2 in the third period to stretch its lead to 46-12.

The Ladybirds also went 12-of-14 from the free-throw line.

"We ran on Wright City tonight," Beamer said. "We pushed the ball really well. When we didn't get layups, we made our free throws."

Sophomore guard Kenzie Ausfahl and junior forward Allie Schlueter paced the Ladybirds with 14 points apiece. Ausfahl also provided four assists and six steals.

Senior forward Sam Schaefer scored six points, recorded four assists and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Amy Janowski scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead Wright City.

"It was a good team win and we hope to take this momentum into Wednesday and take down Bowling Green," Beamer said.
