Girls' Basketball: Wisconsin School for Deaf 38, Missouri School for Deaf 36

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The fifth-seeded MSD Lady Eagles lost to the No. 3 WSD Lady Firebirds in the fifth-place game of the Great Plains Schools for the Deaf Tournament on Saturday.

MSD (2-14) led 15-6 after the first quarter and held a two-point advantage at halftime. The Lady Eagles led 33-20 after the third quarter.

Sophomore guard Delanzia Hayes fouled out with 6 minutes, 59 seconds left in the game and junior guard Melissa Davis fouled out with 4:00 to go. The short-handed Lady Eagles were forced to play with only three players the rest of the way. WSD took advantage of MSD's short bench and rallied to take the lead with :17.3 to go.

"We did the best we could playing three-on-five, but it was difficult," MSD head coach Sydnee Kuster said. "We played our hearts out but ultimately, having only five players proved to be detrimental. Wisconsin had a long bench and was able to swap out players when we weren't.

"While we did make mistakes, I couldn't ask a single thing more from any of my players. It took us getting down to three players for Wisconsin to beat us on the floor"

Hayes directed the Lady Eagles with 14 points and six steals. Senior forward Elizabeth Harrison recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
