Girls' Basketball: North Callaway 59, Silex 34

SILEX, Mo. - Junior guard Kyla Bertschinger tallied a game-high 14 points to steer four players in double figures as the North Callaway Ladybirds marched to the Eastern Missouri Conference rampage Thursday night.

North Callaway (7-1 EMO) raced to an 18-8 edge after the first quarter and widened their lead to 30-14 at halftime. The Ladybirds then turned the game into a runaway by outscoring Silex 25-7 in the third quarter to establish a commanding 55-21 advantage.

Bertschinger also had six steals, six rebounds and four assists, while senior forward Sam Schaefer supplied 12 points and seven rebounds for North Callaway. Sophomore guard Kenzie Ausfahl accounted for 11 points, six steals and four assists, followed by junior forward Allie Schlueter with 10 points.

"It was another good team effort," Ladybirds head coach Morgan Beamer said. "We got to play a lot of players and I was very happy with the balanced scoring of our starters."

Mollie Stanek led Silex (6-15, 1-7) with nine points.

North Callaway (16-7) lost to Paris 48-44 on Saturday in the rescheduled Gary Filbert Classic at Mexico High School. Further details were not available at press time.

The Ladybirds return home for an EMO game against Mark Twain at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
