Boys' Basketball: New Bloomfield 44, Tuscumbia 42

TUSCUMBIA, Mo. - Sophomore guard Jalen Martin hit the game-winner with 5 seconds to play Thursday night, sending the New Bloomfield Wildcats to their long-overdue first Show-Me Conference win of the season.

The game was even at just 4-all after the first quarter, but New Bloomfield (14-9, 1-5 SMC) took a 24-19 edge into the break. Tuscumbia outscored the Wildcats 18-5 in the third quarter to go in front 37-29, but New Bloomfield countered by outscoring the Lions 15-5 in the fourth quarter for the dramatic comeback.

Junior forward Jak Kitchens crafted a double-double with a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds to guide the Wildcats.

"We are very proud of how hard our players competed during the game," New Bloomfield head coach Tim Gilmore said. "Defensively, this was probably one of the best games we have played all year.

"It was nice to see our kids step up and hold them to only five points in the final period."

David Huddleston led Tuscumbia with 15 points.

The Wildcats stay on the road for an SMC matchup at Russellville at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
