Boys' Basketball: South Callaway 54, Russellville 43

MOKANE, Mo. - The South Callaway Bulldogs used a 24-10 outburst in the second quarter to down the Russellville Indians in Show-Me Conference play Tuesday night.

South Callaway (7-12, 2-1 SMC) was on top 15-12 after one quarter and used its second-quarter run to build a 39-22 advantage at the break. The Bulldogs were outscored 16-6 in the third quarter, but still owned a 45-38 lead and then sealed the victory with an 8-0 run over the last 3 minutes.

Junior guard Kaden Helsel connected for a game-high 28 points to pace South Callaway, which picked up its third win in a row. Senior guard Blake Parker also tallied 13 points.

"We got off to a great start offensively. The second quarter may have been our best of the season both offensively and defensively," South Callaway head coach Tony Brandt said. " We are gaining some confidence and playing well together.

"With only three weeks left in the season, we hope this will continue to build towards the end of the season."

Tyler Voss directed Russellville with 15 points and Dylan Henderson had 12.

The Bulldogs host a rescheduled SMC contest against St. Elizabeth at 2 p.m. Saturday.
