Track & Field: North Callaway girls, New Bloomfield boys both take fourth at California meet

CALIFORNIA, Mo. - Freshman Daelyn Schmauch won the 1,600 meters and junior Reyna Schmauch prevailed in the 3,200 as the North Callaway Ladybirds came in fourth at the Guy Rush Invitational on Tuesday night.

In the boys' division, juniors Clay Walker and Payton Culwell were victorious in the 100 and javelin, respectively, to steer the New Bloomfield Wildcats to a fourth-place finish.

Senior Levi Gilman took first in the 110 hurdles as the North Callaway boys came in sixth overall. Sophomore Samantha Haas triumphed in the triple jump as the New Bloomfield girls also finished sixth.

Daelyn Schmauch prevailed in the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 44.69 seconds and Reyna Schmauch won the 3,200 in 12:49.88 as the North Callaway girls tallied 106 points. Daelyn Schmauch also placed second in the 800 (2:32.58), while Reyna Schmauch was second in the 1,600 (5:48.67).

Reyna and Daelyn Schmauch were also part of the 1,600 relay, along with senior Jaclyn McMurtry and junior Kyla Bertschinger, that came in third (4:28.85).

Bertschinger took third in the 800 (2:34.37), junior Nicole Emmons placed third in the discus (96 feet, 6 inches), and junior Abreille Berry was third in the shot put (35-2 1/4).

Senior Colleen Meffert placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (:53.82) for the Ladybirds, while junior Kallie Jo Lehenbauer came in fourth in the long jump (15-3). Sophomore Kenzie Ausfahl took fourth in the triple jump (31-2) and junior Erica Garrett finished fourth in the javelin (83-9).

North Callaway's 800 relay of McMurtry, Lehenbauer, freshman Kira Douglas and sophomore Heather Thurman was third (1:58.74). The quartet of freshman Brianna Douglas, sophomore Christa Gilman, freshman Madison Isaacks and senior Rachel Johnson came in fourth in the 3,200 relay (13:49.70).

Walker triumphed in the 100 in :11.29 and Payton Culwell was victorious in the javelin with a throw of 145-8 as the New Bloomfield boys logged 105 points. Walker and Payton Culwell then teamed with senior Zain Culwell and sophomore Bailey Crane to win the 1,600 relay (3:30.18) and take second in the 800 relay (1:35.45).

Walker also came in second in the 200 (:22.83), while Crane took second in the 400 (:54.27). Junior Kyle Emerson finished second in the 800 (2:13.98) and sophomore Robert Morningstar placed second in the 3,200 (11:18.07).

Senior Bradley Roddy was third in both the 110 hurdles (:18.03) and 300 hurdles (:44.90) for the Wildcats, while Zain Culwell came in fourth in the 200 (:24.10). The 3,200 relay of Emerson, Morningstar, junior Jacob Eickhorst and freshman Wil Steele took fourth (9:39.17).

Levi Gilman prevailed in the 110 hurdles in :16.80 and was fourth in the 300 hurdles in :45.10 as the North Callaway boys accumulated 84 points. Junior Tanner Pezold finished second in the javelin (133-7), junior Skyler Barker was second in the 110 hurdles (:17.70), and freshman Bradley Berry placed second in the high jump (5-8).

Sophomore Paden Lewis took third in the shot put (43-9 1/4) for the Thunderbirds, while freshman Zeb Meffert came in fourth in the pole vault (9-0).

Haas was victorious in the triple jump (33-10 1/4) as the New Bloomfield girls compiled 62 points. Senior Baylee Garrett finished second in the high jump (4-10) and third in the long jump (15-3 1/2), while junior Kassi O'Dowd took second in the 3,200 (14:43.00).

Senior Kate Baxter placed third in the 100 hurdles (:17.24) and was part of the Lady Wildcats' 400 relay - joining Haas and sophomores Mackenzie Garrett and Parker Pitzen - that finished fourth (:55.93).

Host California collected the girls' team title with 165 points and Southern Boone locked up the boys' team championship with 125.

New Bloomfield competes at the South Callaway Relays at 4 p.m. Friday. North Callaway competes in the Eastern Missouri Conference championships at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
