Prep Baseball: New Bloomfield 11, Calvary Lutheran 1

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Sophomore designated hitter Jacob Lane doubled twice and drove in four runs as the New Bloomfield Wildcats tamed the Calvary Lutheran Lions in Monday night's non-conference rampage.

New Bloomfield (5-7) - winners of two straight - erupted for five runs in the bottom of the second and three more in the third to build an 8-0 lead. After Calvary Lutheran scored its lone run in the top of the fifth, the Wildcats countered with three runs in their half of the inning to end the game on the mercy rule.

Lane went 2-for-3 and scored three times to help spark New Bloomfield's 11-hit attack. Senior center fielder Evan Roddy was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored, while freshman third baseman Robbie Bradley finished 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and three runs scored.

Senior left fielder Tommy Bedsworth went 3-for-3 and scored three runs for the Wildcats. Senior second baseman Zack Burton was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Senior starter Tyler Martin scattered five hits over 3 1/3 scoreless innings to post the victory for New Bloomfield. Martin (2-3) struck out six and issued four walks.

The Wildcats travel to Southern Boone for a non-conference matchup at 5 p.m. today.
