Prep Softball: North Callaway 13, Silex 3

AUXVASSE, Mo. - Sophomore center fielder Lani Wilson delivered three hits and drove in four runs as the North Callaway Ladybirds demolished the Silex Lady Owls in an Eastern Missouri Conference romp Thursday night.

The game was called on the 10-run rule after five innings. North Callaway (8-6, 5-1 EMO) broke out for five runs in the bottom of the first, but Silex (1-9, 1-7) came right back with three runs in the top of the second.

The Ladybirds then pulled away behind a six-run outburst in their half of the second and tacked on two runs in the fourth.

Wilson went 3-for-4 with a double and scored twice to help fuel North Callaway's 14-hit rampage. Freshman first baseman Clara Moser finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored once, while sophomore Kenzie Ausfahl was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Freshman second baseman Ellie Eckert went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice.

Ausfahl (3-2) - pitching four scoreless innings in relief of junior starter Hanna Knipp - picked up the victory. Ausfahl allowed just one hit, struck out eight and issued one walk.

"This is the first time this season we played from the first pitch on," Ladybirds head coach Brandi Thomsen said. "I was very happy and we did a really good job with all of our hitters."

North Callaway opens play in the Centralia Tournament against Mexico at 9 a.m. Saturday.
