Lady Wildcats split doubleheader with Southern Boone

New Bloomfield suffers first loss of season in nightcap

NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - New Bloomfield sophomore starter Kaylee Beck threw a two-hitter and junior catcher Shelby Ruppel homered as the Lady Wildcats blanked Southern Boone 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday night.

Southern Boone was able to come away with a split by prevailing 5-2 in the nightcap to hand New Bloomfield its first loss of the season. The Lady Wildcats are now 9-1.

Beck posted the complete-game victory in the opener, striking out four and walking none.

Ruppel finished 2-for-2 with a solo homer, a double, a run batted in and a run scored as New Bloomfield collected 11 hits while tallying a run in the bottom of the second inning, two in the third and one in the fourth. Senior right fielder Rylee Rackers was also 2-for-3 with an RBI, while senior left fielder Macey Schuster went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Junior shortstop Madi Craighead finished 4-for-4 and scored a run for the Lady Wildcats, while senior third baseman Kate Baxter was 2-for-4 and scored once.

New Bloomfield managed only five hits in bowing in the second game. Southern Boone jumped on top with a four-run outburst in the top of the second, while the Lady Wildcats got a run back in the third. Each team scored a run in the sixth.

Senior starter Madison Love went 2-for-3 with an RBI for New Bloomfield, while Craighead finished 1-for-3 with a run scored. Beck, playing first base, was 0-for-3 but drove in a run.

Love lasted only 1 1/3 innings in being pinned with the loss. She gave up four earned runs on two hits, issued four walks and struck out none.

The Lady Wildcats travel to South Callaway for a Show-Me Conference game at 5 p.m. today.
