Ladybirds beat Lady Hornets 12-10 in extra innings

North Callaway Ladybirds sophomore Cameran Knipp came up with a big hit when she came up to pinch hit in the top of the eighth inning against the Fulton Lady Hornets at the high school athletic complex Monday night.

With the score tied at 10-all with one out and runners on second and third, Knipp drove a double to right to score both runners, which lead to the Ladybirds picking up a 12-10 victory.

North Callaway (6-6) opened the game by scoring four runs in the first and one in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Fulton (5-5) produced two runs in the third. The Ladybirds produced four runs in the top of the fourth and the Lady Hornets came up with two in the bottom of the frame and one in the fifth.

North Callaway came up with a run in the sixth to stretch their lead to 10-5, but Fulton forced extra innings when they produced five runs in the seventh.

Junior left fielder Carley VanBoening went 1-for-4 with a double and five runs batted in as the Ladybirds totaled 12 hits. Junior catcher Erica Garrett was 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, freshman second baseman Ellie Eckert was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Fulton sophomore center fielder Grace Sparks was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI as the Lady Hornets collected nine hits. Junior starter Kendalyn Roesner went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while junior second baseman Emma Abbott was 2-for-5 with a run scored and sophomore right fielder Meadow Lungstrum went 1-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored.

North Callaway senior starter Taylor Wilson (4-3) - who was moved from pitcher in the fourth inning and re-entered in the sixth - threw 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win. She allowed four runs - two earned - on four hits, struck out three and walked one.

Fulton freshman reliever Taylor Kettle took the loss. She allowed three runs - two earned - on two hits, struck out two and walked two.

Fulton plays a North Central Missouri Conference game at Kirksville at 5 p.m. today.

North Callaway plays an Eastern Missouri Conference game at Community R-VI at 5 p.m. today.
