Softball: Fulton 13, Moberly 9

MOBERLY, Mo. - Freshman reliever Taylor Kettle and junior third baseman Kendalyn Roesner combined for five hits and six runs batted in as the Fulton Lady Hornets outlasted the Moberly Lady Spartans in Tuesday night's NCMC victory.

Fulton (3-3, 3-1 North Central Missouri Conference) put up three runs to open the game, but Moberly countered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-3 edge. The Lady Spartans padded their lead with four more runs in the second, but the Lady Hornets erupted for eight runs in the third to build an 11-8 advantage.

Both teams tacked on runs in the fourth and Fulton pushed across its final run in the fifth.

Kettle went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double, three RBI and a run scored as the Lady Hornets prevailed behind an 18-hit rampage. Roesner finished 2-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and scored twice.

Sophomore shortstop Haden Trowbridge just missed hitting for the cycle for Fulton, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore right fielder Meadow Lungstrum was 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored twice, while senior catcher Hannah Sparks went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Kettle threw the final six innings in relief of Roesner to pick up the win. She gave up five earned runs on eight hits, struck out seven and walked five.

The Lady Hornets return home to face NCMC rival Mexico at 5 p.m. Thursday.
