Lady Wildcats beat Jamestown in first-round game

TIPTON, Mo. - New Bloomfield junior guard Madi Craighead's game-high 18 points guided the top-seeded Lady Wildcats to a 58-20 blowout win - their first of the season - over the No. 8 Jamestown Lady Eagles during the opening round of the 78th Annual Tipton Tournament on Monday night.

New Bloomfield (1-1) bolted to a 17-1 lead after the first quarter and stretched its lead to 38-12 at halftime. The Lady Wildcats outscored Jamestown 9-6 in the third period to maintain a 47-18 advantage.

"We played a little better (than New Bloomfield's 56-48 opening-night loss to Calvary Lutheran last week)," Lady Wildcats head coach Brett Craighead said. "We were able to knock down some shots early and that was able to get us going and relax us."

Senior forward Madison Love totaled 15 points, while sophomore center Samantha Haas scored eight points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.

Mackenzie Vargas led Jamestown with six points.

The Lady Wildcats play either No. 4 seed Russellville or No. 5 Helias JV in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Indians and Lady Crusaders played each other in a first-round game on Monday night. Results were not available at press time.
