Girls Basketball: Bowling Green 54, Fulton 33

MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo. - Despite senior guard Dionne Vaughn producing a team-high 19 points and five assists, the sixth-seeded Fulton Lady Hornets committed 22 turnovers and lost to the No. 3 New Bloomfield Lady Bobcats in the first round of the Montgomery County Tournament on Monday night.

Fulton (0-2) trailed 16-6 after the first quarter and faced a 27-12 deficit at halftime. Bowling Green outscored Fulton 9-5 in the third period to maintain a 38-17 lead.

"We're getting better and you could see it tonight," Fulton head coach TJ Quick said. "We tweaked some things on defense and played better, defensively, than we did against MexicoWe are learning to be more aggressive on offense. We still have work to do."

Junior guard Shawnie Hempfield and sophomore forward Haden Trowbridge brought down four rebounds apiece.

Fulton plays No. 7 seed Silex at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the consolation-bracket semifinals. The Lady Owls lost to the No. 2 seed Hermann Lady Bearcats in their opening-round game on Monday night.
