Mann, Haas, Hager take state medals in Class 2

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - South Callaway sophomore Adrian Mann medalled with a second-place finish in the girls' 300-meter hurdles Saturday in the Class 2 state track and field championships at Jefferson City High School's Adkins Stadium.

Mann logged a time of 47.55 seconds, easily eclipsing her sixth-place time of :49.18 in Friday's preliminaries. Adrian junior Lauren Shipley won the state title in the 300 hurdles in :46.51.

New Bloomfield freshman Samantha Haas also secured a state medal Saturday by coming in seventh in the Class 2 girls' triple jump at 33 feet, 10 1/2 inches. Mid-Buchanan sophomore Bailey Gilbert captured the state championship with a leap of 36-5 1/2.

South Callaway junior Bennett Hager completed the trio of Callaway state medalists when he took fourth in the boys' javelin with a throw of 145-7 on Friday. Lathrop sophomore Peyton O'Connor locked up the state title at 157-9.

New Bloomfield junior Zain Culwell took 12th place in the boys' long jump finals at 19-2 on Saturday. South Callaway senior Brandon Ward failed to post a height in the boys' high jump.

New Bloomfield's boys' 1,600-meter relay of freshman Bailey Crane, sophomore Payton Culwell, junior Zain Culwell and sophomore Clay Walker just missed qualifying for the finals. The quartet came in ninth in Friday's preliminaries with a time of 3 minutes, 33.36.

The Wildcats' 400 relay of Crane, Payton Culwell, junior Bradley Roddy and Walker also failed to make the finals, finishing 14th overall in :46.75 in the prelims. South Callaway's unit of freshman Peyton Leeper, senior Brandon Ward and sophomores Dalton Stone and Kaden Helsel followed in 15th with a time of :46.94.

Crane and Payton Culwell finished 14th (:54.10) and 15th (:54.24), respectively, in the 400 prelims.

Wyatt Hager and his brother, junior Bennett, were unable to record a height in the pole vault finals Friday. The Bulldogs' 800 relay of junior Harley Kight, Stone, sophomore Austin Meyer and Ward was disqualified in the prelims for leaving its zone.

In the girls' division Friday, New Bloomfield junior Kate Baxter placed 15th in the prelims for the 100 hurdles in :18.61. Junior Baylee Garrett finished 16th in the long jump at 14-5.

South Callaway's 400 relay of Mann, fellow sophomores Ashley Potter and Kaci Jordan, and junior Haley Walters took 15th in the prelims in :54.06.
