Tristan Little of Russellville competes Friday in the preliminaries of the Class 2 boys 110-meter hurdles at Adkins Stadium.

Harley Nale of Linn had a familiar sight in Friday's 800-meter run of the Class 2 state track and field championships at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City.

She was yet again chasing Davis Atkins of Father Tolton, who edged out Nale to take the state title in the 800-meter run for the second straight year.

Atkins won with a time of 2:21.13 last year and 2:21.11 this year.

Nale raced up from fourth to second out of the final turn and took second in 2:22.91, improving from last year's 2:24.05 that earned her third in the state meet.

Atkins and Nale had 1-2 finishes in the 400-meter dash and 800 at the district and sectional meets earlier this month. Nale also finished runner-up to Atkins in the 800 in last year's district meet.
Nale will compete in the 400 and 4x800-meter relay today.
The other highlight on the girls' side for area athletes was Allyssa Puckett of Eugene, who placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 112-1.
After a throw of 105-7 on her fourth throw, she reached the 112-1 mark on her next toss.
On the boys' side, the Russellville distance runners performed well.
Anthony Bertucci, Damian Miller, Beau Bryant and Harrison Frank ended up third in the 4x800-meter relay in 8:18.60.
"It hasn't really hit me yet, but it's something unreal," Miller said. "It's something you can't really ever experience anything like it."

Bertucci and Frank have experienced the state meet, but Friday was Miller's and Bryant's first taste of the event.
"It's overwhelming at first, but it feels so good to come out here and run and see all these people out here cheering for you, it's just something unreal," Miller said.
Miller said Friday's relay wasn't the group's best, but was still satisfied with how they did.
"Our first runner, he put it all out there his first lap and a half but he doesn't have as strong of a kick he normally does, but he still did great. My first lap I came in right where I wanted to be and second lap I was a little bit under and I tried kicking it as much as I could.
"Our third runner, he did really well. He did what he was supposed to do. He's better at catching people so that's perfect for him in the third spot. Our fourth runner, he's our best. I mean he did excellent. He moved up as much as he could. He put the gap on fourth place and we couldn't have asked for a better day."
Bertucci stood on the medal stand a second time Friday, taking sixth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:10.83. Isaac Ashton of Tipton was close behind in eighth in 10:13.95.
Frank and Bertucci still have work to do, as they race in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs today.
Bennett Hager of South Callaway competed in the newest event at the state meet - javelin.
He placed fourth in the exhibition event with a throw of 145-7.
Penney leads the boys standings with 16 points after five completed events. Malden is second at 15, Cleveland NJROTC is third at 13 while Gallatin and Crane are tied for fourth with 12 points each.
Father Tolton has 27 points to lead the girls standings. Summit Christian Academy is second with 18. Brentwood, Cole Camp, Schuyler County and East Buchanan are tied for third with 10 points each.
