Arrowood, Lady Bulldogs baffle Ladybirds in opener

South Callaway starter throws four-hitter, strikes out 12 in 6-2 win

MOKANE, Mo. - Senior starter Konnor Arrowood threw a four-hitter and struck out 12, and just missed hitting for the cycle as the South Callaway Lady Bulldogs prevailed over the North Callaway Ladybirds 6-2 on Tuesday night.

Both teams were playing their season opener.

Arrowood allowed single runs in the first and fifth innings in the complete-game victory, while issuing just one walk. She helped herself at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a triple, double, single, a run batted in and three runs scored as South Callaway collected seven hits.

Senior center fielder Haley Walters was also 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored twice for the Lady Bulldogs. Sophomore left fielder Destiny Musgrove went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

Junior right fielder Kallie Jo Lehenbauer was 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the first for North Callaway and junior first baseman Hanna Knipp finished 1-for-3 and scored the run in the inning. Freshman second baseman Ellie Eckert also went 1-for-3 and scored the Ladybirds' other run in the fifth on a wild pitch.

Junior left fielder Carley VanBoening was 1-for-3 to account for North Callaway's other hit.

Senior starter Taylor Wilson suffered the loss for the Ladybirds, giving up three runs - two earned - on just four hits over four innings. Wilson struck out two and walked one.

South Callaway plays at Van-Far at 5 p.m. today. North Callaway then visits Van-Far for its Eastern Missouri Conference opener at 5 p.m. Thursday.
