College men's soccer: Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) 2, William Woods 1

The Owls dropped their American Midwest Conference opener after the Lynx came up with the winning goal in the 52nd minute Tuesday night at Firley Field.

The loss was the second straight for William Woods University, which slipped to 2-5 on the season.

The Owls took an early lead on sophomore forward Billy Nzojyibwami's goal in the 9th minute. Lindenwood University-Belleville countered with a goal in the 14th minute to pull even, then took the lead for good on the goal early in the second half.

William Woods edged the Lynx 15-14 in overall shots, while both teams finished with seven shots on goal. The Owls possessed a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

William Woods squares off against Missouri Baptist University in an AMC matchup at 5 p.m. Saturday in St. Louis.
