College women's tennis: No. 6 William Woods rallies to reach NAIA quarterfinals

MOBILE, Ala. - The sixth-ranked Lady Owls used a comeback to clip No. 11 Lindsey Wilson (Kentucky) College 5-3 in the second round of the 39th-annual NAIA national championships Wednesday.

William Woods University - which received a first-round bye - advances to a quarterfinal match against No. 3 Xavier University of Louisiana at 1 p.m. today. Xavier moved on by shutting out No. 19 University of the Cumberlands (Kentucky) 5-0 on Wednesday.

The Lady Owls were blanked by Xavier 5-0 on March 22 in New Orleans.

William Woods trailed Lindsey Wilson 2-1 after doubles play Wednesday. Seniors Felicia Cesar and Chelsea Steward provided the Lady Owls with their lone doubles point with an 8-4 victory at No. 3.

Steward logged the first singles point at No. 5 for William Woods, tying the match at 2-all. She won the first set 6-0 and led 1-0 in the second set before the match was retired.

Senior Karyna Sagalai put the Lady Owls in front with her 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 6, but Lindsey Wilson pulled even with a victory at No. 2.

William Woods took the lead for good at 4-3 on Cesar's 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3. Sophomore Ana Zavala followed with a 6-3, 7-5 triumph at No. 4 to seal the victory for the Lady Owls.
