College softball: William Woods 1-6, Hannibal-LaGrange 2-0

Junior starter Brittany Roady threw a complete-game shutout in the nightcap as the Lady Owls gained a split with the Lady Trojans in Tuesday's AMC doubleheader at Backer Sports Complex.

William Woods University raised its season record to 7-14 and improved to 2-4 in the American Midwest Conference. Hannibal-LaGrange University is now 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the AMC.

Roady scattered six hits, struck out three and walked three in moving her season record to 4-5.

Senior first baseman Alli Massey finished 2-for-3 with a double, three runs batted in and scored a run as the Lady Owls logged 10 hits in the second game. Junior left fielder Anna Counts went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and three runs scored.

Sophomore right fielder Lindy Wilson was also 2-for-3 and scored a run for William Woods.

The Lady Trojans broke a 1-all tie in the opener by coming up with the winning run in the top of the sixth inning to edge the Lady Owls.

Senior center fielder Emma Walker led off the bottom of the third with a triple to deep right and scored William Woods' only run when senior designated player Ari Arnold followed with a single into shallow center.

Walker went 2-for-4 and senior second baseman Emily Robinett was 3-for-3 with a double as the Lady Owls tallied eight hits.

William Woods junior starter Madison Ausfahl - a North Callaway graduate - went the distance in suffering the loss. Ausfahl (3-7) gave up two runs - one earned - on eight hits, struck out five and walked one.

The Lady Owls wrap up their homestand with an AMC doubleheader against Stephens College at 2 p.m. Friday.
