College softball: Vanguard (Calif.) 8-9, Westminster 0-1

COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Lady Blue Jays combined for only 11 hits, all singles, in dropping to 0-8 on the season after being swept by the Lady Lions in Monday's doubleheader.

Freshman left fielder Hannah Schroeder was 2-for-3 as Westminster College was shut out on five hits in the opener.

Junior starter Madison Ingram went four innings in taking the loss for the Lady Blue Jays. Ingram (0-2) allowed six earned runs on seven hits and issued three walks.

Freshman starter Bailee Zemianek was 2-for-3 in the second game as Westminster collected six hits Zemianek (0-2) threw 5 2/3 innings in suffering the loss, giving up eight runs - seven earned - on 10 hits, striking out one and walking one.

Freshman first baseman Mikala Guthrie finished 1-for-3 and drove in the Lady Blue Jays' only run in the fourth inning.

Westminster closed out its spring break trip with a doubleheader against San Diego Christian on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.
