College baseball: Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) 8-11, William Woods 1-0

The Owls combined for only seven hits and committed seven total errors in being swept by the Lynx in Sunday's American Midwest Conference doubleheader at Backer Sports Complex.

William Woods University - which won the first game of the series 16-6 in eight innings on Saturday - tumbled to 7-18 overall and 2-12 in the AMC.

Freshman catcher Chase Gibson finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in as the Owls were limited to five hits in Sunday's opener. Senior center fielder Tyler Bracht was 1-for-3 with a double and scored William Woods' lone run.

Senior starter Hayden Davey lasted just 1 1/3 innings in suffering the loss for the Owls. Davey (2-2) surrendered six runs - five earned - on four hits, struck out three and walked two.

William Woods was blanked on two hits in the nightcap. Senior designated hitter Marquise Doherty doubled in the bottom of the first inning and then singled in the sixth.

Senior starter Taran Oulton went six innings in taking the loss for the Owls. Oulton (1-5) allowed seven runs - six earned - on eight hits, struck out three and walked one.

Junior left fielder Trevor Garriott and freshman right fielder Isaiah Gibbs both drove in three runs as William Woods amassed 19 hits in Saturday's romp. Garriott was 3-for-5 with three doubles and two runs scored, while Gibbs finished 2-for-3 and scored three times.

Senior first baseman Quincy Jones went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and scored a run, while Doherty was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Freshman shortstop Alex Wimer also finished 3-for-4 with a double and scored three runs.

Junior starter Travis Hennessey gave up just an earned run on three hits in five innings to post the victory for the Owls. Hennessey (2-3) issued three walks and struck out two.

William Woods hosts a nonconference doubleheader against Lincoln Christian (Illinois) University at 1 p.m. today.
