Men's basketball: William Woods 74, Park 65

PARKVILLE - The Owls erased a seven-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Pirates 41-25 in the second half of Thursday night's American Midwest Conference win.

William Woods University - which has won two straight and seven of its last eight - raised its season record to 11-6 and improved to 8-3 in the AMC. The Owls also avenged a 78-73 loss to Park University on Nov. 15 in Fulton.

William Woods trailed 40-33 at halftime Thursday night and twice was down by eight points early in the second half, but rallied behind an 18-8 run to take the lead. Freshman guard Aaron Brookins connected on a 3-pointer to put the Owls in front 57-55 with 8 minutes, 54 seconds left in the game.

William Woods then reeled off a 14-6 run to establish control. Sophomore forward Makenzie Fessler scored in the paint to give the Owls a 71-61 edge with 1:12 to go.

Fessler, senior guard Brian Enriquez and junior guard Treshawn Gause delivered 13 points apiece to direct five players in double figures for William Woods. Brookins logged 11 points and sophomore forward Codi Whitlock contributed 10 as the Owls shot 48 percent (28-of-59) from the field.

Enriquez also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds as William Woods was outrebounded by a narrow 38-34 margin.

Allen Hyatt produced a game-high 19 points to lead three players in double figures for Park (9-8, 7-4), which shot 44 percent (26-of-59) as a team. Ernest Myles III added 12 points and Brandon Townsell finished with 10.

The Owls travel to Lincoln (Illinois) College for a nonconference game at 3 p.m. Saturday. William Woods edged the Lynx 88-87 in double overtime Nov. 19 in Fulton.
