Women's basketball: William Woods 67, Hannibal-LaGrange 51

HANNIBAL - The Lady Owls posted their second straight American Midwest Conference victory by shooting 50 percent (15-of-30) in the first half and outscoring the Lady Trojans 37-16 during that span Thursday night.

William Woods University (10-6, 6-4 AMC) relied on an early 11-2 run to establish a double-digit lead. Junior guard Jazlyn Drake's basket in the paint put the Lady Owls on top 22-10 with 1 minute, 50 seconds to play in the first quarter.

Hannibal-LaGrange University (3-14, 1-10) narrowed the gap to 24-16 at the 6:56 mark of the second quarter, but William Woods separated itself by ending the first half with a 13-0 run. Sophomore guard Tori Nesslage scored in the lane with :37 remaining to send the Lady Owls to the break with a 21-point edge.

William Woods then opened the second half with an 11-4 run to build its biggest lead of the game. Junior guard Peyton Greenlee buried a 3-pointer to make it 48-20 with 4:33 to go in the third quarter.

The Lady Owls maintained their double-digit advantage throughout the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Greenlee produced 15 points - including three 3s - to direct three players in double figures for William Woods, which shot 48 percent (27-of-56) for the game. Freshman forward Kasey Hazell supplied 12 points and junior guard Kaycee Gerald had 11.

Greenlee finished off a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds to spark the Lady Owls to a decisive 38-20 advantage on the boards.

Kylee Elmore - who connected on 11-of-20 shots - delivered a game-high 29 points as the only player to reach double figures for Hannibal-LaGrange, which shot 40 percent (19-of-47) as a team.

William Woods returns home for an AMC contest against St. Louis College of Pharmacy at 1 p.m. Saturday at Anderson Arena.
