Women's basketball: William Woods 64, Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) 52

The Lady Owls outscored the Lady Lynx 22-8 in the third quarter to halt a two-game American Midwest Conference losing streak Tuesday night at Anderson Arena.

William Woods University (9-6, 5-4 AMC) trailed 33-28 at halftime and was still down 41-35 with 6 minutes, 24 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The Lady Owls, though, finished the period with a 15-0 run to go in front to stay, taking a 50-41 lead on junior guard Jazlyn Drake's basket in the lane as time expired.

William Woods then widened its lead to as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter to stop its brief skid.

Junior guard Kaycee Gerald delivered 14 points to to pace four players in double figures for the Lady Owls, who shot 41 percent (27-of-66) from the field. Senior forward Sommer Burgard chipped in with 11 points, while junior guard Peyton Greenlee and freshman forward Kasey Hazell provided 10 apiece.

Hazell completed a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds to spur William Woods to a 39-33 edge on the boards.

Brianna Mueller countered with a game-high 19 points for Lindenwood University-Belleville (6-10, 6-4), which shot 40 percent (19-of-47) as a team and committed 21 turnovers. Hailey Erdman contributed 11 points.

The Lady Owls play at AMC foe Hannibal-LaGrange University at 5:30 p.m. today.
