KANSAS CITY — The seventh-ranked Owls prevailed in four singles matches to win their season opener over the NCAA Division II Hawks on Friday.

Singles winners for William Woods University were senior Javier Callejo at No. 1, junior Aaron Westerland at No. 3, junior Sam Bird at No. 5 and sophomore Nathan Cooke at No. 6.

Westerland teamed with junior Oscar Barreiro for a victory at No. 1 doubles. Callejo paired with junior Christopher Vleeming Ortiz for a win at No. 2.

The Owls travel to Marshall on Saturday, Feb. 23, for matches against host Missouri Valley College (10 a.m.) and McPherson (Kansas) College (3 p.m.).
