Men's basketball: Owls stumble in second half of loss

LINCOLN, Ill. - The William Woods University Owls were outscored 56-29 in the second half and had their two-game winning streak halted in a 91-66 nonconference loss to Lincoln College on Wednesday night.

William Woods (15-8) was in front 37-35 at halftime, but Lincoln College (19-7) took control over the final 20 minutes to turn the game into a rout.

Sophomore forward Codi Whitlock was 9-of-12 from the field in supplying 18 points to guide the Owls, who shot just 39 percent (26-of-66) as a team. Whitlock rounded out a double-double by collecting a game-high 12 rebounds to lift William Woods to a 39-36 edge on the boards.

Sophomore forward Makenzie Fessler added 14 points for the Owls, who committed 24 turnovers. Freshman forward Andrew Nett contributed 13 points.

Julian Powell and Trayvon Tyler shared game scoring honors with 19 points apiece for Lincoln, which shot 52 percent (37-of-71) from the field. Lejavius Johnson tallied 16 points.

William Woods returns to American Midwest Conference play when it hosts Harris-Stowe State University at 3 p.m. Saturday at Anderson Arena. The Owls defeated Harris-Stowe 78-71 on Jan. 22 in St. Louis.
