Women's basketball: Westminster 79, Webster 64

Senior forward Mirrakohl Johnson surpassed 1,000 career points and was one of four players in double figures to spark the Lady Blue Jays' SLIAC home victory over the Lady Gorloks on Wednesday night.

Westminster College - which has won three of its last four - improved to 17-5 overall and 11-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Lady Blue Jays also avenged a 71-70 loss at Webster University on Jan. 5.

Westminster owned a 17-16 edge after one quarter Wednesday night, but outscored the Lady Gorloks 25-10 in the second quarter to stretch its lead to 42-26 at halftime. The Lady Blue Jays maintained that advantage despite being edged by Webster 38-37 in the second half.

Senior guard Kendahl Adams - the SLIAC's leading scorer - delivered 20 points to pace Westminster, which shot 43 percent (26-of-60) as a team. Johnson, who finished 6-of-11 from the field, added 19 points and completed a double-double with a game-high 15 rebounds to guide the Lady Blue Jays to a 40-28 advantage on the boards.

Sophomore guard Kallee Dowler connected on five 3-pointers to log 15 points for Westminster and sophomore guard Makayla Jackson contributed 11.

Darieana Hunter produced a game-high 21 points for the Lady Gorloks (15-7, 9-5), who also shot 43 percent (25-of-58) from the field. Addison Beussink chipped in with 13 points.

The Lady Blue Jays play their final home game of the regular season against Principia (Illinois) College at 1 p.m. Saturday. Westminster easily prevailed at Principia 79-55 on Jan. 8.
