College Softball: William Woods splits with Park

PARKVILLE - Junior pitcher Brittany Roady threw a five-hit shutout in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader to help the William Woods Lady Owls secure a spot in the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament.

With the split, William Woods ended the regular season at 20-23 overall and 11-12 in the AMC.

The Lady Owls will play in the conference postseason tournament April 30-May 3 at Antimi Softball Complex in Columbia.

Roady struck out four and walked one in the complete-game victory Saturday to raise her season record to 11-7.

William Woods protected a 1-0 lead in the second game until it erupted for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to take control. Junior left fielder Anna Counts finished 2-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored as the Lady Owls accumulated 10 hits.

Senior third baseman Emily Robinett was 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run, while senior first baseman Alli Massey also went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Senior center fielder Emma Walker finished 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

William Woods managed only five hits in dropping the opener. The Lady Owls tallied their only run in the second when Massey scored on sophomore right fielder Lindy Wilson's one-out double.

Wilson was 1-for-2 and Counts went 2-for-3 with a double.

Junior starter Madison Ausfahl - a North Callaway graduate - lasted only two innings in suffering the loss for the Lady Owls. Ausfahl (7-13) surrendered seven earned runs on six hits, struck out two and walked one.
