College Softball: Westminster splits with Eureka

Freshman pitcher Bailee Zemianek tossed a four-hitter, homered and drove in four runs in the second game as the host Westminster Lady Blue Jays hammered the Lady Red Devils for a split in Saturday's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Westminster improved to 13-15 on the season and 13-3 in the SLIAC. Eureka is 18-6 overall and 10-4 in the SLIAC.

Zemianek allowed an earned run, struck out two and walked one in going the distance to even her season record at 3-3. At the plate, Zemianek finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and hit one of Westminster's three home runs - a three-run blast in the bottom of the third.

Sophomore third baseman Brooklyn Bledsoe delivered a three-run shot in the fourth and freshman catcher Hannah Schroeder followed with a two-run homer as the Lady Blue Jays piled on 11 runs in the inning.

Freshman first baseman Mikala Guthrie went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to help power Westminster's 15-hit attack. Junior designated player Madison Washington was 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored twice.

Down 3-0 in the opener, the Lady Blue Jays' rally came up short after they scored both of their runs in the seventh. Washington finished 2-for-4 with a two-run double in the seventh as Westminster totalled nine hits.

Junior second baseman Taylor White went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while freshman right fielder Lauren Huskey was 1-for-4 and scored a run.

Junior pitcher Madison Ingram threw a complete game in taking the loss for the Lady Blue Jays. Ingram (6-5) gave up three runs - two earned - on nine hits, struck out six and issued two walks.

Westminster travels to Spalding (Ky.) in Louisville for a SLIAC doubleheader at 1 p.m. today.
