College Baseball: Westminster splits with MacMurray

Sophomore right fielder Ryan Clavin hit a walk-off, two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning in the nightcap to give the Westminster Blue Jays a split in Saturday's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Saucier Field.

Westminster moved to 12-11 on the season and 8-6 in the SLIAC. MacMurray College is 7-22 overall and 3-9 in the SLIAC.

With the second game tied at 5, Blue Jays junior catcher Branden Beeler drew a one-out walk in the ninth and Clavin followed with his dramatic homer to right-center.

Clavin - who also hit a solo home run in the fifth - finished 3-for-4 and scored three times as Westminster logged 10 hits. Junior left fielder Will Stonecipher was 2-for-4 with a solo homer in the sixth, a game-tying, two-run double in the seventh, three RBI and a run scored.

Senior reliever Ian Cassidy (5-1) threw a perfect ninth to pick up the win for the Blue Jays.

Westminster was shut out on just two hits in the first game. Clavin singled in the fourth and sophomore shortstop Devin Masek - a Fulton graduate - singled in the fifth.

Sophomore starter Andrew Boessen was tagged with the loss for the Blue Jays. Boessen (1-1) allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out three.

Westminster remains at home for a SLIAC doubleheader against Eureka (Ill.) College at noon Thursday.
