Women's soccer: Lady Owls bow to Columbia College on PKs in AMC title game

COLUMBIA - The No. 4 seed William Woods University Lady Owls soccer team fell to the No. 2 Columbia College Lady Cougars 3-0 in penalty kicks in the championship of the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament Thursday night.

The game was scoreless until the 84th minute when Lucy Kingsley scored an unassisted goal to put Columbia in front. William Woods needed just one minute to pull even when senior defender Claire Stark countered with an unassisted goal to make it 1-all.

The two teams then battled through two scoreless overtimes before the Lady Cougars prevailed on penalty kicks.

The Lady Owls were easily outshot by Columbia 31-9, including 13-6 in shots on goal. The Lady Cougars also had a commanding 19-4 advantage in corner kicks.

William Woods freshman goalkeeper Abbey West tallied 12 saves.

The Lady Owls ended the season with an 11-6-4 record.
