Volleyball: Lady Owls reach AMC semifinals

The No. 4 seed William Woods University Lady Owls volleyball team downed No. 5 Lindenwood University-Belleville (Illinois) 20-25, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-11 in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament Tuesday night at Anderson Arena.

Senior outside hitter Tory Wiley and sophomore opposite player Kate Doerhoff delivered 12 kills apiece for William Woods (20-15). Junior libero Jessica Jensen logged a match-high 19 digs, while sophomore setter Remie Johnson posted a double-double with 11 digs and a match-high 28 assists.

Freshman setter Tess Schannuth added 13 assists for the Lady Owls.

William Woods will now travel to top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Park University for a semifinal clash at 4 p.m. Friday. Park swept No. 8 seed Lyon (Arkansas) College in a 25-12, 25-12 and 25-17 quarterfinal victory Tuesday night.

The Lady Owls ended the regular season with a 29-27, 25-22 and 25-16 loss at Park on Nov. 1.

In Friday's second semifinal at Park, No. 2 seed Missouri Baptist University will square off against No. 3 Columbia College. Missouri Baptist advanced with a 25-17, 25-18 and 25-12 quarterfinal sweep of No. 7 seed St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Tuesday night, while Columbia swept No. 6 Freed-Hardeman (Tennessee) University 25-17, 25-13 and 25-19.
