Men's basketball: Westminster 78, Webster 61

WEBSTER GROVES - It was an offensive frenzy as four players finished in double figures, allowing the Blue Jays to stop a three-game SLIAC losing streak with Saturday's win over the Gorloks.

Junior guard Collin Caywood went 7-of-13 from the field as he finished tied for a game-high with 19 points for Westminster College (10-7, 6-4 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). Senior guard Tanner Cochran also produced 19 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

Senior forward Stu Hollandsworth delivered 13 points for the Blue Jays, while sophomore guard Cody Shaw contributed 11.

Webster University (8-9, 5-5) took control early as it went into halftime with a 29-26 edge. The Gorloks, however, surrendered a staggering 52 points in the second half as they were outgunned by Westminster.

The Blue Jays nailed 47 percent (28-of-59) of their shots and were a respectable 36 percent (8-of-22) from 3-point range. Webster shot 51 percent (27-of-53) overall.

After the Blue Jays moved in front 37-36 on a Cochran 3-pointer, things suddenly started clicking as that spurred a 11-2 run that put Westminster ahead by 10 points.

The Blue Jays' advantage would only grow from that point as they led by as many as 18 points. Westminster shot 60 percent (6-of-10) from behind the arc in the second half.

Sophomore guard Josh Johnson was the lone Webster player in double figures as he scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-3 3s.

Westminster returns home for a SLIAC game against Greenville (Illinois) College at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Blue Jays bowed to the Panthers in a 118-112 shootout at Greenville on Dec. 2.
