Women's basketball: William Woods 82, St. Louis College of Pharmacy 69

ST. LOUIS - Sophomore guard Kaycee Gerald and senior forward Jasmine Brown combined for 40 points as they helped the Lady Owls secure an American Midwest Conference win over the Lady Eutectics on Thursday night.

Gerald - who went 8-of-10 from the floor - finished with 21 points and game-high 11 rebounds to direct William Woods University (10-7, 7-4 AMC), which shot 47 percent (31-of-66) from the field and owned a commanding 50-32 rebounding edge. Brown added 19 points, six rebounds and five steals.

After STLCOP (3-13, 1-11) tied the game at 6-all in the first quarter, the Lady Owls put together a 10-2 run to move ahead 16-8.

In front 20-12 after one quarter, William Woods would watch its lead grow to double digits after a Brown basket made it 35-22. However, the Lady Eutectics closed the half with a 13-3 run to trim their deficit to 38-35.

STLCOP kept pace with William Woods in the early minutes of the third quarter as it trailed just 42-39 at the 7:34 mark. The Lady Owls, though, broke the game open with a 14-2 run that featured a combined 13 points from Gerald and Brown.

With William Woods ahead 63-48 at the end of the quarter, the Lady Owls weren't threatened in the fourth quarter as they would lead by as many as 19 points.

Morgan Rose - despite making just 8-of-26 shots - produced a game-high 26 points for the Lady Eutectics, who shot a meager 30 percent (22-of-73) as a team. Eledria Franklin provided 12 points and Allison Dewald tallied 11.

William Woods hosts AMC foe Hannibal-LaGrange University at 1 p.m. Saturday at Anderson Arena.
