Men's basketball: Harris-Stowe 60, William Woods 51

ST. LOUIS - The fading Owls shot a dreadful 23 percent (5-of-22) in being outscored by the Hornets 32-22 in the second half of Thursday night's American Midwest Conference loss.

William Woods University suffered its fourth loss in the last five games, tumbling to 12-13 on the season and 9-8 in the AMC. The Owls also bowed to Harris-Stowe State University 84-74 on Dec. 28 in Fulton.

William Woods went into halftime with a slim 29-28 edge Thursday night, but the Hornets used a 14-0 run to build a 50-34 advantage with 8 minutes, 48 seconds to play in the game. The Owls pulled within 53-48 on senior guard DaShaun Stark's basket in the paint with 4:26 left, but that would be as close as they would get.

Senior forward Darrien Dickey made 5-of-9 shots in finishing with 18 points to lead three players in double figures for William Woods, which shot just 35 percent (15-of-43) for the game. Stark was next with 11 points and senior forward Brandon Vice contributed 10.

Dickey collected a game-high nine rebounds, but the Owls were edged on the boards 42-40.

Christian Wimbley scored nine points as Harris-Stowe (16-8, 13-4) didn't have any players make it into double figures. The Hornets won their fourth straight despite shooting a feeble 32 percent (21-of-65) as a team.

William Woods comes home for an AMC contest against Lindenwood University-Belleville (Illinois) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Owls held on for an 84-80 victory at Lindenwood-Belleville on Jan. 2.
