Women's basketball: Westminster 70, Washington 68

Senior guard Kendahl Adams buried a 3-pointer with 6.7 seconds remaining to lift the Lady Blue Jays to a dramatic home win over the Lady Bears on Thursday night.

Westminster College (7-1) outscored Washington University 20-12 in the fourth quarter to rally for its seventh straight victory. The Lady Blue Jays trailed 23-16 after one quarter and 39-33 at halftime.

The Lady Bears (4-3) carried a 56-50 lead into the fourth quarter and were up 66-61 after Becca Clark-Callender scored with 3:02 to play. Westminster sophomore guard Makayla Jackson connected on a 3 at the 1:58 mark to make it a two-point game and junior guard Rei Imamura hit another 3 with 1:05 left to bring the Lady Blue Jays within 68-67.

After Washington missed a shot with :41 to go, Adams was off the mark on a jumper with :13 remaining. Imamura, though, came up with the offensive rebound and found Adams for the decisive 3.

Adams - who made 11-of-20 shots - finished with a game-high 29 points as Westminster shot 41 percent (25-of-61) as a team. Sophomore guard Kallee Dowler hit 4-of-9 3-pointers to supply 18 points.

Senior forward Mirrakohl Johnson grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds to direct the Lady Blue Jays to a 39-30 edge on the boards.

Madeline Homoly countered with 22 points to guide Washington, which shot 48 percent (28-of-59) from the field. Rachael Sondag tallied 12 points.

Westminster returns to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a trip to Eureka (Illinois) College at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Blue Jays are 2-0 in the SLIAC.
