Myers' two-run homer in seventh sparks surging Westminster

EUREKA, Ill. - Sophomore right fielder Mackenzie Myers' two-run home run punctuated a four-run outburst in the top of the seventh inning as the Westminster College Lady Blue Jays blanked Eureka College 4-0 in the opener of Saturday's SLIAC doubleheader.

The victory was the fifth straight for Westminster College, which moved above the .500 mark at 13-12 overall and stayed perfect in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 9-0. Eureka College fell to 19-6 on the season and 9-4 in the SLIAC.

Results from the second game of the doubleheader were not available at press time.

The Lady Blue Jays loaded the bases with back-to-back hits and a walk to start the seventh in Saturday's first game. Sophomore catcher Aubrie Vaughn's RBI fielder's choice put Westminster on the scoreboard and then sophomore starter Katie scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

Myers then followed with her two-run shot to extend the Lady Blue Jays' advantage.

Price (8-6) shut out Eureka while scattering six hits in the complete-game win. She struck out six and walked one.

Price was also 2-for-3 with a double as Westminster made the most of six hits. Myers went 1-for-3.

The Lady Blue Jays play a doubleheader at Central College at 1 p.m. today.
