Baseball: William Woods 3-6, Harris-Stowe 2-0

The Owls snapped their three-game losing streak by sweeping Friday's American Midwest Conference doubleheader against the Hornets at Backer Sports Complex.

William Woods improved to 29-18 on the season and 17-9 in the AMC. Harris-Stowe State University slipped to 28-20 overall and 13-12 in conference play.

The two teams wrapped up their series with a single game late Saturday afternoon. Results were not available at press time.

The Owls edged the Hornets in Friday's opener when senior left fielder Patrick Dillon broke a 2-all tie with an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning.

William Woods jumped in front 2-0 on senior catcher Josh Nicol's two-run home run in the second, but Harris-Stowe pulled even with single runs in the third and the sixth.

Nicol went 1-for-1 as the Owls were out-hit 8-6. Dillon finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, while senior right fielder Nolan Aherin was 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Junior starter Taran Oulton (8-4) earned the win for William Woods, giving up two earned runs on seven hits in six innings. Oulton (8-4) struck out six and walked three.

Junior closer Jeremy Hidalgo allowed one hit in the seventh to log his sixth save of the season.

Senior starter Dany Paradis-Giroux (6-5) followed up by throwing a three-hit shutout and striking out eight in the nightcap for the Owls.

William Woods built a 3-0 lead in the third behind senior designated hitter Tyler Cunningham's two-run single. The Owls then made it 5-0 in the fifth on Cunningham's RBI double and Dillon's RBI groundout.

William Woods scored its final run in the sixth on senior shortstop Frankie Valle's RBI single.

Cunningham was 2-for-4 with three RBI as the Owls piled up 11 hits. Valle went 2-for-5 with an RBI and junior center fielder Tyler Bracht finished 1-for-3 and scored two runs.

Aherin was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
