Softball: Westminster 2-2, Webster 0-1

WEBSTER GROVES - Sophomore Katie Price tossed a no-hitter and then threw 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief as the Lady Blue Jays swept Wednesday's SLIAC doubleheader with the Lady Gorloks.

Westminster College - which has won six of its last eight - improved to 10-12 on the season and stayed perfect in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 6-0. Webster University slipped to 10-10 overall and 5-3 in the SLIAC.

Price struck out three in baffling the Lady Gorloks in the opener. Price (6-6) then relieved sophomore starter Madison Ingram after only 1 2/3 innings in the second game, scattering five hits in her shutout stint and striking out two.

Ingram allowed an earned run on two hits, issued three walks and had two strikeouts.

The Lady Blue Jays scored their first run in the first game on sophomore second baseman Brooke Laidley's RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning. Price helped her own cause by driving in Westminster's other run with a single in the third.

Price finished 2-for-4 as the Lady Blue Jays logged nine hits. Freshman center fielder Emily Holloway went 2-for-3 with a double and scored both of Westminster's runs.

In the nightcap, the Lady Blue Jays put up both of their runs in the first on Price's RBI groundout and sophomore catcher Aubrie Vaughn's RBI single. Webster scored its lone run in the second.

Price was 1-for-2 and Vaughn finished 1-for-3 as Westminster totalled seven hits. Senior left fielder Amber Tepen went 1-for-4 with a double and scored a run, while Laidley also finished 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The Lady Blue Jays return home for a SLIAC doubleheader against Blackburn (Illinois) College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
