William Woods women's soccer team shut out in NAIA opening round

DAYTON, Ohio - The Lady Owls' season came to a screeching halt as they couldn't keep pace with defending NAIA champion Northwestern (Ohio) in a 5-0 loss Saturday in the opening round of the national tournament.

William Woods University - which completed its season with a 13-6-3 record - was outshot 27-1 overall and 13-0 in shots on goal. Despite the lopsided margin, the Lady Owls were only down 1-0 at halftime.

However, the Lady Racers (18-2-1) didn't need long to extend their lead when junior forward Camilla Andersen ripped a shot past William Woods junior goalkeeper Rebecca Sturgess in the 49th minute.

Senior forward Robyn Moodaly made it 3-0 with a goal in the 57th minute and sophomore midfielder Evdokla Popadinova added a goal in the 66th minute. Freshman forward Anna Fisker ended Northwestern's offensive blitz with a goal in the 86th minute.

Sturgess finished with six saves, while junior defender Shelby Scanlan was the lone player for the Lady Owls to record a shot.
