Women's Soccer: William Woods 4, Lyon (Ark.) 2

Junior defender Claire Stark provided two goals as the No. 2 seed WWU Lady Owls turned back the No. 7 Lyon Lady Scots in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament Friday night at Firley Field.

William Woods University (13-4-2) moves on to host No. 3 seed Park University in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Monday. Park downed No. 6 seed Missouri Baptist University in a 4-2 quarterfinal victory Friday night.

The Lady Owls ended the regular season by playing to a 2-2, double-overtime tie at Park on Oct. 25.

William Woods struck quickly Friday night when junior defender Shelby Scanlan scored in the 3rd minute off a shared assist by senior forward Jenna Vogt and freshman forward Aurora Henriksen.

Stark then delivered her first goal - on a Scanlan assist - in the 12th minute to put the Lady Owls up 2-0.

Lyon College (5-11-1) battled back to tie the match with goals in the 24th and 39th minutes.

Stark gave William Woods the lead for good at 3-2 with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute. Freshman forward Colleen Bayer tacked on a goal in the 68th minute off another assist from Scanlan.

The Lady Owls outshot the Lady Scots by a decisive 20-9 margin, including 11-5 in shots on goal. Westminster had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman goalkeeper Arianna Meikel tallied three saves for William Woods.

Top-seeded Columbia College hosts No. 4 Lindenwood-Belleville (Illinois) in Monday night's other semifinal. Columbia blanked No. 8 seed Hannibal-LaGrange University 9-0 and Lindenwood-Belleville outlasted No. 5 Freed-Hardeman (Tennessee) University 2-1 in quarterfinal play Friday night.
