Owls golf team ties for fourth at NAIA championships

SILVIS, Ill. - The William Woods University men's golf team finished in a tie for fourth place as the NAIA national championships wrapped up Friday at TPC at Deere Run.

William Woods - sharing fourth place with Dalton State - tallied a 1,220 team total (297-315-292-316) over the four rounds. The Owls logged a top-five finish for the fourth straight year at the national championships.

Grand View University secured the national team title with a 1,197 score, followed by Cardinal Stritch University in second place with a 1,202. Texas Wesleyan took third place with a 1,205.

Senior Billy McKenzie capped off his college career by tying for sixth place individually with an 11-over par 295 (71-76-70-78) to guide William Woods. McKenzie was named to the national championship all-tournament team.

Senior David Houlding was next for the Owls with a 304 (69-76-76-83) to finish 23rd. Junior Jack Clarkson tied for 26th with a 305 (77-78-71-79), sophomore Mark Martin tied for 74th with a 321 (81-85-75-80), and senior Matt Wells tied for 78th with a 323 (80-86-78-79).

Texas Wesleyan's Rowan Lester won the national individual championship with a 3-over 287.
