College Baseball: William Woods 15, Park University 7

PARKVILLE, Mo. - Senior second baseman Ryan Phillips and junior first baseman Tyler Cunningham combined for four hits and seven RBI in the WWU Owls' AMC blitz of the Park University Pirates on Thursday afternoon.

Phillips - who scored three times - went 2-for-4 with a three-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning and an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth as William Woods University (12-18, 8-2 American Midwest Conference) piled up a season-high 20 hits. Cunningham also finished 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the first and an RBI single in the fifth, scoring once.

The Owls put up two runs apiece in the first and third, before Park (15-8, 8-5) countered with three runs in the bottom of the third to make it 4-3. William Woods came right back with a four-run outburst in the top of the fourth to stretch its lead, while the Pirates tallied two runs in their half of the inning to pull within 8-5.

The Owls then took control by erupting for four more runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the eighth. Park added single runs in the seventh and ninth.

Senior third baseman Alex St. Pierre was 3-for-6 with a solo home run in the third, finishing with two runs batted in and three runs scored for William Woods. Junior shortstop Glen DesBouillons went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, while freshman left fielder Trevor Garriott finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Junior starter Chase Feucht worked six innings to earn the victory for the Owls. Feucht (3-3) gave up five earned runs on 11 hits, struck out five and issued three walks.

William Woods and Park wrap up their AMC series with a noon doubleheader Sunday.
